Dental Implants

Dental Implants the best way to replace a tooth

Dental implants are the best way to replace missing teeth.  They can also provide a fixed (non-removable) solution to any number of missing teeth.  Implants can also provide excellent support and stability for removable dental appliances such as partials and dentures.

Dental implants are artificial roots (usually titanium) that are placed into the upper or lower jaw by Dr. Howard.  The teeth attached to implants have an INCREDIBLY NATURAL FEEL and function.  Dental implants are very strong and the most natural way to replace teeth.  It is the most permanent and durable solution available.

Reasons for dental implants:

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth.

  • Help resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space.

  • Restore a patient’s confident smile. chewing, speech, and digestion.

  • Restore smile support that makes you look younger

  • Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable.

  • It can be like turning back time

What does getting dental implants involve?

A mini dental CT scan and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to allow for the discussion of options and ensure successful placement.  While the area is numb the implant will be placed. It is then allowed to integrate (become solid) over a 3 to 4 month period.  Some implants can be used immediately after placement.

This implant is the root for your new tooth or support for your denture. The crown or denture is securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient.

You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed.  as with any dental work, Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits are essential to the life of your new implant.

With our onsite CEREC (Ceramic Reconstruction) and full-time lab technician, we create beautiful crowns and place them in just one appointment.  Our Cerec milling unit produces highly-esthetic and comfortable restorations in just one visit.  There are no temporary crowns.  The exact milling of the crown allows for a precise fit and a better bond to be created.

The CEREC Acquisition Unit is mobile and houses a medical grade computer and the CEREC camera. The camera is used to take a digital picture of your prepared tooth. This picture is used instead of a traditional impression. This means no impression tray and material for you to gag on. The computer and CEREC 3D software converts the digital picture to a three dimensional virtual model of your prepped tooth. Your tooth is then designed right on screen using the software while you wait (and watch if you would like!). This software can assist your dentist with designing any single tooth restoration: crowns, inlays (fillings), onlays (partial crowns), and veneers. Once your restoration is designed, a click of a button, and the design data is communicated via a wireless radio signal to the CEREC Milling Unit.

TMJ

TMJ

TMJ stands for temporomandibular Joints.  These are the joints that connect your jaw to the rest of your skull.  TMJ problems occur when the jaw joints and muscles are not functioning together.  The result of TMJ problems can be seen in symptoms like shoulder stiffness, earaches, migraines, dizziness, teeth grinding, or pain around the eyes.  The most common symptoms are headaches.

We will examine your muscles and bite to determine proper function.  If the proper alignments are not in place treatment is applied. Treatment often includes an orthotic to be worn over the teeth until the muscles and joints are stabilized.  In some cases permanent bite correction may include crowns, orthodontics, or permanent appliances.  This may seem like an intense process, but chronic TMJ sufferers understand the value of healthy function.
