TMJ stands for Temporaomandibuilar Joints. These are the joints that connect your jaw to the rest of your skull. TMJ problems occur when the jaw joints and muscles are not functioning together. The result of TMJ problems can be seen in symptoms like shoulder stiffness, earaches, migraines, dizziness, teeth grinding, or pain around the eyes. The most common symptoms are headaches.
We will examine your bite to make sure that the proper alignments are functioning. If the proper alignments are not in place treatment is applied. Treatment often includes an orthotic to be worn over the teeth until the bite is stabilized. In some cases to permanently align the bite by reshaping the teeth may be necessary. This would include crowns, orthodontics, or permanent appliances. This may seem like an intense process, but chronic TMJ suffers understand the value of healthy function.
