Are you aware of the risk factors associated with gingivitis and the signs and symptoms that it may be present? Gingivitis, which is an early stage of gum disease, occurs when there is a gum tissue infection occurring within your mouth.  Oftentimes, gum disease can show up with early indications of gingivitis until it progresses into advanced stages where tooth loss can occur.

Common risk factors for gingivitis include issues with your oral hygiene care. If you are not brushing and flossing daily and not keeping your mouth clean of bacteria and debris, you can increase your risk for a gum disease infection. Furthermore, dry mouth produced by medications you may be taking along with pregnancy, genetics, diabetes and several other risk factors can make you more likely to suffer from the disease. Even a poor diet can lead to gum disease.

To help ensure that gingivitis is treated properly, you will need to make sure that you visit your dentist as soon as signs and symptoms begin to show. Gum disease typically arises as visual clues including bleeding gums, excessive redness, or swelling of your gums. Furthermore, bad breath, as well as an extreme tenderness with your gums, is often present with gingivitis.
